Vision
The Consortium was created by a visionary legislative
task force which found that it was in Louisiana's best economic interests
for the state's public and private scientific and medical institutions
to form a partnership that would advance gene therapy research and
development.
The Consortium began operations in 2000 when the State committed
an initial $45 million to its operation. The funds are used to support
recruitment of leading researchers in the cell and gene therapy field,
establish core technology labs at the sites of member institutions,
and develop cell and gene therapy technologies for clinical applications.
The Consortium objectives are:
• Building the research infrastructure
• Establishing a Clinical Manufacturing Facility
• Enhancing educational opportunities
